Does this bug cover supporting input methods, or should that be a separate one? At least on Snow Leopard, AppKit supports input methods with vertical text.

(In reply to comment #1) > Does this bug cover supporting input methods, or should that be a separate one? At least on Snow Leopard, AppKit supports input methods with vertical text. It can be. But input method might be a big enough chunk that it could be a separate bug. I guess it doesn't really matter though as long as we can agree on one way or another.

Hi, I'm interested in bringing vertical text editors to the web, and I'd like to contribute to improving vertical writing mode editing in WebKit. Vertical text editing is common in native apps in Japan, but rarely used on the web, partly because it still has many bugs in WebKit. Smartphone support matters here: writing novels on a phone is common, and companies need mobile support for vertical text editors in their services. In Japan, iPhone is widely used, and most iPhone users choose Safari. I plan to fix caret, hit testing, selection and repaint issues in vertical-rl (mainly <textarea> and contenteditable), filing a separate bug for each that blocks this one. Reviews would be greatly appreciated.

Bug 119635 is related to this one (selection gaps are not repainted when clearing a selection in vertical-rl). I've opened a PR for it: https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/pull/76727 Could someone take a look and review it? Thanks!
