When the spec changed to make a pseudo-element's default anchor be its originating element, some use cases were lost, so the CSSWG added a 'match-parent' keyword to 'position-anchor' to enable those use cases, see: https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/8913 WebKit still needs to implement this change.
